Use the table feature of a graphing calculator to do these exercises. (See Example 1.)
Health The number of prescriptions (in millions) filled annually in the United Stales is approximated by
where x is the number of years since 2000.*
(a) Create a table that gives the number of prescriptions (in millions) at the beginning of each year from 2002 to 2007.
(b) Create a table that gives the number of prescriptions (in millions) at the middle of each year from 2002 to 2007. (Hint: Mid-2002 corresponds to x = 2.5.)
Example 1
Business
Use the table feature of the graphing calculator to find the projected sales of the company in Example 10 for years 5 through 10.
Enter the sales equation y = .07x2 − .05x3 + 2x2 + 7x + 62 into the equation memory of the calculator (often called the Y = list.) Check your instruction manual for how to set the table to start at x = 5 and go at least through x = 10. Then display the table, as in Figure 3.2. The figure shows that sales are projected to rise from $184, 500 in year 5 to $982, 000 in year 10.
