Conduct the following pressure lab:

Pressure Lab

This lab is designed to utilize a pneumatic controller on a simulator. (Note: A bench unit, using air for the process, could be used as well.) The instructor will change the tuning constants on the trainer controllers to demonstrate how a process system responds when the controller tuning constants are correct and incorrect.

Procedure

Note: If a controller begins to act up it is probably because of a load change, a drastic upset, or someone has adjusted the tuning constants.

a. The instructor will demonstrate how a controller reacts to a load change or upset with the proper tuning constants, and will show how a controller reacts to a load change or upset when the tuning constants are incorrect.

Note 1: If a drastic load change occurs, the tuning constants of a controller should be changed.

Note 2: Some electronic controllers are self-tuning, such as Foxboro 761 and Taylor Mod 30.

b. The instructor will lower the gain to .5.

c. Raise the flow to 9 units and watch the process reaction, then discuss controller action with the instructor.

d. Lower the flow back to 4 units and let process stabilize.

e. The instructor will set gain back to normal and let process stabilize.

f. The instructor will then raise the gain to High.

g. Raise the flow to 9 units and watch the LRC-100 reaction, then discuss the controller action with the instructor.

h. Lower the flow back to 4 units and let process stabilize.

i. The instructor will set gain back to normal and let process stabilize, then lower reset to .5.

j. Raise flow to 9 units and watch process reaction, then discuss controller action with the instructor.

k. The instructor will lower flow back to 4 units and let process stabilize, then set reset back to normal and let process stabilize.

l. The instructor will raise reset to 8.

m. Raise flow to 9 units and watch the process reaction, then discuss the controller action with the instructor.

n. The instructor will lower the flow back to 4 units and let process stabilize, then set reset back to normal and let process stabilize.
