Do not put objects in the ear. Avoid environmental noise, such as loud music, equipment, and airplanes. Get all childhood and adult immunizations, particularly mumps, measles, and rubella. Congenital deafness can occur if a pregnant woman is exposed to rubella during the first 16 weeks of gestation. Report any hearing loss, vertigo, nausea, vomiting, or a spinning sensation in the head while sitting. Enlarged adenoids may result from chronic mouth breathing. The eustachian tubes may be blocked which predispose a patient to infection. Report any hearing loss such as asking other s to speak up, answering questions inappropriately, and increased sensitivity to even slight changes in noise level.
