Mental illness is a very serious that is to be cured and also to be prevented. Mental illness has many adverse like killing oneself for no cause or threatening other people by their behavior.
Thus there is a high need to prevent the mental illness and can be prevented in three categories
• Universal interventions
• Selective interventions
• Indicated interventions
Many organizations also come forward for the welfare and prevention of the mental illness.
• Many state and local agencies of the U.S deals with the mental disorders.
• Federal agencies such as the National mental health act and NIMH that supports and conducts research on the mental disorders.
• National institute of alcohol abuse and alcoholism (NIAAA) and National institute of drug abuse (NIDA) of India
• Many professional organizations like American Psychological Society (APA), American Psychiatric Association (APA) etc.
• Volunteer organizations and agencies like the most popular one National Mental Health Association (NMHA).
Although there are many plan and organizations are being involved in the prevention of mental illness there should be more planning in the international and national level, make numerous opportunities in the mental health work, improved public education, increased voluntary work in the future for better prevention.
