The specifications for an automobile fuel pump state that it should pump 1.0 L of gasoline in 40 s with a suction pressure of 150 mm of mercury vacuum and a discharge pressure of 30 kPa. Assuming that the pump efficiency is 60 percent, calculate the power drawn from the engine. See Fig. 7.25. The suction and discharge lines are the same size. Elevation changes can be neglected.
