Section 3.6 on inverse functions begins with the following quotation from Professor R. P. Boas: If anybody ever told me why the graph of is the reflection of the graph of line, it didn’t sink in. To this day, there are textbooks that expect students to think that it is so obvious as to need no explanation.
Show your instructor that you are not in the dark about inverse functions. Write out an explanation of why the graphs of are indeed reflections of one another in a 45° line. (As preparation for your writing, you’ll probably need to look over Section 3.6 and make a few notes.)
