A blacksmith desires to forge a work piece using the anvil shown in Figure P11–19. The anvil is bolted to a workbench with in. diameter bolts. The anvil is made of gray cast iron with E = 15 × 10³ ksi. The tensile and compressive strengths are 31 ksi and 109 ksi, respectively. A surface pressure of 1 ksi is applied to the horn of the anvil during the forging process. Determine the maximum principal stress and its location on the anvil.
