Strategy Requirements under the Baldrige National Quality Award program The Baldrige Nationa Quality Award program was established by the U.S. Congress in 1987 to promote quality awareness anc to enhance the competitiveness of U.S. businesses. The program is under the National Institute of Stan dards and Technology (NIST), a nonregulatory federal agency within the Commerce Department. Th( program has seven categories of performance criteria, including leadership, strategic planning, custome focus, measurement and analysis, workforce focus, operations focus, and results. The last category results, includes four parts: customer-focused results, leadership and governance, workforce focus, and product and process. Recipients of the prestigious Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award are recognized annually for the firms’ achievements in meeting these performance criteria.
