Approximate the general spandrel shown using a series of n rectangles, each of width ?a and of the form and then write a computer program that can be used to calculate the coordinates of the centroid of the area. Use this program to locate the centroid when (a) m = 2, a = 80 mm, h = 80 mm; (b) m = 2, a = 80 mm, h = 500 mm; (c) m = 5, a = 80 mm, h = 80 mm; (d) m = 5, a = 80 mm, h = 500 mm. In each case, compare the answers obtained to the exact values of x and y computed from the formulas given in Fig. 5.8A and determine the percentage error.
