Long term memory lasts for longer periods (even for life time) and can hold much more information than the short term memory. The two types of long term memory are,
• Declarative or explicit memory
• Implicit or non-declarative memory
Declarative memory or explicit memory involves the intentional remembering. The brain structure hippocampus is associated with the declarative memory. The organs associated with the explicit memory are, medial temporal lobes (especially the hippocampus and amygdala), thalamus, fornix, prefrontal cortex. Thus, the medial temporal lobes are required for the memory retrival.
Thus, the blanks can be filled with hippocampus; amygdala.
