Should Mariam be concerned for the other children who are in class with Sam? Why or why not?

Was Mariam being overly worried by telling the principal she suspected Sam had whooping cough?

If you were Sam’s pediatrician, what type of diagnostic tool would you most likely use in the clinic to quickly identify whether or not he has whooping cough?

If Sam does indeed have whooping cough, should the entire school body get vaccinated, or would another treatment be preferable?

Could the parents be correct in their suspicion that the boy most likely caught the disease at school?

If another child was exposed to Sam and did not have the pertussis vaccination for whooping cough, should the child be vaccinated immediately?

Answer #1

Mariam should be concerned if it is a confirmed whooping cough because it is a highly contagious disease which can e as oky spread among childrens

It is the duty of Mariam to report to the head of the management so that appropriate measures can be taken to prevent the spread of such infectious diseases

The pediatrician can easily diagnose by the way the child coughs (whoop sound can be heard through ausculation) along with other symptoms. (Fever, cough, cold like symptoms). The other test like a nasopharynx swabs test can help to determine the growth of bacteria.

Vaccination is the best way to prevent an infection. In this case the childrens in the same class of Sam can be given antibiotics to prevent infection especially children who had no pertussis vaccination before.

This could be because of low immunity,There are chances for the child to get this disease if there is a similar case or another child with an infection.

The child should undergo a post exposure prophylaxis with erythromycin because even after the administration of vaccine the chance of getting infection in childrens are high
