Question

2. A recessive allele (e) is epistatic over the B gene locus, producing a golden cot homozygous (ee). Dogs that are homozygous dominant (EE) o determined by the B locus, either black (BB or Bb) or chocolate (bb). Answer the following qs regarding a cross a Labrador retriever with the genotype Bb Ee and a Labrador retriever with the genotype Bb ee r heterozygous (Ee) will show the color A) What is the phenotype of dog 1? B) What is the phenotype of dog 2? C) What percent of the puppies will be: 1. Black? 2. Brown? 3. Golden?

Answer #1

A) Phenotype of dog 1(Bb Ee) is black,as it does not have ee,so its phenotype is determined by B locus.

B) Phenotype of dog 2(Bb ee) is golden,as it contains ee(e is epistatic over B)

C) After crossing,out of 16 individuals,8 contain ee genotype,so all of them are golden,so golden phenotypes are=(8*100)/16=50%

6 individuals contain either BB or Bb(and do not contain ee).So they are of black phenotypes=(6*100)/16=37.5%

2 individuals contain bb(and do not contain ee).So they are of choclate or brown phenotypes=(2*100)/16=12.5%

    2. In Labrador dogs, there are 2 loci that determine coat color. The first locus, B is dominant to b. At least one B allele will produce black coat color, while the bb genotype produces a chocolate coat color. This first locus also determines nose color in Labradors: B_ black noses, and bb brown noses. The second locus has a genotype, ee, that is epistatic in nature. Any Labrador with an ee genotype will be yellow. A genotype containing at...

Laborador retrievers come in 3 colors-black, brown or golden. Gene B determines what color of pigment is produced, with black being dominant over brown. Gene C determines pigment deposition, with the prescense of the dominant allele resulting in pigment deposition and homozygous recessive resulting in a golden appearance (no deposition). a) which gene is epistatic to which? b) If a Bbcc individual is crossed with a bbCc, what proportion of the progeny will be black, brown of golden? c) you...

the answer I gave was wrong 1 1 - - 1 Hair color is determined in Labrador retrievers by alleles at the Band E loci. A dominant allele B encodes black pigment, whereas a recessive allele b encodes brown pigment. Alleles at a second locus affect the deposition of the pigment in the shaft of the hair; dominant allele E allows dark pigment (black or brown) to be deposited, whereas recessive allele e prevents the deposition of dark pigment, causing...

Fur color in dogs can be black, brown or white. The B gene is responsible for fur color. Dogs that inherit a dominant B will have black fur. Dogs that inherit 2 recessive alleles, bb, will have brown color. There is a second gene that contributes to fur color in dogs: gene I. Individuals who inherit a dominant allele, I, at this location, will always have white color. Individuals who inherit the homozygous recessive condition, ii, will be able to...

    1) Coat color in mice is determined by several independently assorting autosomal genes. Gene A is involved in the distribution of pigment along the hair. A dominant allele (A) produces a hair color called "agouti"--the hair has dark pigment at the base and tip of each hair shaft and yellow pigment in the central portion of the shaft. Homozygous recessive mice (aa) are missing the yellow stripe and thus have solid dark-colored hair. Gene B is involved in the color...

Answer the question 1. Progressive retinal atrophy (PRA) is a recessive disorder that causes blindness in Labrador retrievers. These dogs also have a gene that determines whether they have black hair (B) or brown hair (b). A breeder mates a brown Labrador retriever that is a carrier for PRA with a heterozygous, black Labrador retriever that does not carry PRA. What percentage of their offspring are predicted to have brown coats and not carry PRA? Use a Punnett Square/ Dihybrid...

The Labrador retriever's coat colours are black, yellow, and chocolate. s produced by the presence of a recessive epistatic gene, which has the effect of masking the black and chocolate colour genes. Black (B) is dominant to chocolate (b) Therefore, the possible genotypes and corresponding phenotypes are: Phenotype Black Brown Yellow Possible Genotypes G bb 41. Predict the percentage of offspring that would be black in colour for each of the following crosses. Record your answer as a whole number....
