So is the study inconclusive? The class decides that the sample size was too small and believe many more ios should be sampled Well Christine cant do this all by herself inding all these joeys and weighing them is exhausting workh so she and 22 of her classmates all go to Australia and each of them finds and weighs 23 oeys think about that-what is the sample size going to be2) They compile all their data, and determine the combined average weight to be 504.09 mg with the sample sd still equal to 40 mg They perform an hvpothesis 39. What test do they use and why? a) t-test because its a sample s.d c) z-test because its a large enough sample d) z-test because its a sample s.d. b) t-test because the sample is small e) none of these 40, The test is not significant at α = .01. However, using the p-value, how confident are we of the test result? a) 95.24% b) 96.88% c) 98.12% d) 99.06% e) none of these

Answer #1

39. When we find estimate for population mean, there are two cases where you must use the t-test instead of the Z-test. The first case is where the sample size is small (below 30 or so), and the second case is when the population standard deviation is not known.

In this context we had sample s.d. , so we will use t-test in this case.

Answer- Option A

40. Using the sample data and assuming the null hypothesis is true, the t-statistic is given by :

5 S/Vn

which follows a t-distribution with n - 1 degrees of freedom.

The P value, or calculated probability, is the probability of finding the observed, or more extreme, results when the null hypothesis (H0) is true.

If the P-value is less than (or equal to) α, then the null hypothesis is rejected in favor of the alternative hypothesis. And, if the P-value is greater than αα, then the null hypothesis is not rejected.

Here population mean is not given so we cannot calculate the test statistic and hence the p -value.
