The theory of goal attainment was developed by imogene king in early 1960 s. it describes a dynamic ,interpersonal relationship in which a patient grows and development to attain certain life goals.this theory explains the factors which effects the attainment of goals are roles,stress,space ,time.

imogene king has presented an open system's framework from which she delivered a theory of goals attainment .

the major concept of theory is interaction ,perception, communication, transaction,role,stress,growth, development,space and time.

3 basic assumptions are present in king's open system framework

  • nursing focus is the care of human beings.
  • nursing goals is the health of individuals and health care for groups.
  • human beings are open system in constant interactions with their environment
