Why is a statement of cash flows needed if we can see the balances at the beginning and end of the year by looking at the balance sheet?

The cash flow statement is a statement that exists to bring transparency to how both balance sheet & income statement can impact a company’s cash position. The cash flow statement would show the investors the detailed explanation of sources & applications of company’s funds during a particular financial year from various activities various balance sheets would show only the opening & ending cash balances.

Moreover if a company wants to go for budgeting & forecasting, cash flow is the apt document whereas balance sheet reveals only the financial position of the company. The cash flow statements provide a clear picture of movement of cash & cash equivalent whereas balance sheet includes total of assets, equities & liabilities.
