Answer #1

mg Tcose Tcose

Here, for the mass, we have

2Tcosheta = mg

from the diagram

we will use sin theta here

sin theta = opposite / hypotenuse

where opposite = 0.6/2 = 0.3

hypotenuse is 1 m

heta = arcsin (0.3/1)

heta = 17.5 degree

so,

T = 5e-3 * 9.8 / 2 * cos 17.5

T = 0.0256829 N

Now, in equilibrium

F = Tsinheta

kq1q2 / r2 = Tsinheta

9e9 * q2 / 0.62 = 0.0256829 * (0.3 / 1)

q = 0.555e-6 C

or

q = 0.555 uC

    Two balloons each have mass 4.0x10 kg. Balloon 1 has a negative net charge. Balloon 2 has twice the net negative charge of balloon 1. Balloon 1 is taped to the wall, and balloon 2 is tied to a string of length 0.70 m, which is attached to the ceiling directly above balloon 1 as shown.
