Culture is defined as a set of values, practices, traditions or beliefs a group shares, whether due to age, race or ethnicity, religion or gender. Religious diversity can however be very benificial from company's point of view. Though it is very challenging to maintain religious diversity at workplace as it creates enormous differences.

INTERCULTURAL AND RELIGIOUS DIFFERNCES

  • Religious Practices- During the office hours there are many religions which special time for prayer in the workplace each day.
  • Social values - Ideas about appropriate social and sexual behaviour, work ethics, wealth and personal growth vary between cultures.
  • Dress- Many religions follow there dress codes like turbans , Headcarves etc as its there religious culture at work place.
  • Family obligations - High Priority given to family following cultural values can conflict the work at workplace.
  • Religious dress - Employers also also to wear their religious dress at workplace . They can also be asked to show their face fir identification purpose if their dress covers their face.
  • Ethnicity - Many people would agree that there is a distinct difference between the employee from a small town and the employee from a large metropolis.

How to manage religious and intercultural differnces at workplace-

  • ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Training to all.employess - It is very important to offer training to all employees and to discuss what is acceptable in terms of discussing faith in the workplace. As religion is very conflicting topic among two employess of diffrent religions it results can be devastating and harmful to workplace.
  • Encourage employee to accept differences - Monitor employees and if it is apparent that there is discontent over religious issues, encourage the two parties to discuss their faith and problems in a safe environment, away from other workers, so that they may come to a better understanding of one another.
  • Adoption of no tolerance policy - Any action , words or behaviour which can't be tolerated , a severe and immediate action should be taken among the emoplyee. If the employees are properly trained and educated they will automatically understand that what kind of behaviour is required at workplace.
  • Provide time off to.employees for religious reasons- Offer time off for these employees and be prepared to face some criticism from employees who do not share the same faith and feel slighted because they do receive the same treatment.
