If a company pays for its employee's CPA prep course, CPA Exam, and the state filing fees, who is taxable? Is this considered a gift to the employee?

  1. CPA course fee of employee paid by the employer is a non taxable benefit, provided that the course is directly related to the business, that is, it will benefit the employer in some way or other.
  2. And also if the employee agrees with the same employer after the completion of the said course and the employer obtains written agreement of employee of retaining so, the employer may also claim the tuition fee as expense.
  3. Therefore such fee is not taxable in either hands.
  4. It is also not a gift to the employee as it is benifits the employer by value addition.
