Hiring the Right Person to Lead HIMs Products and Workflow

For this discussion, imagine that you have been tasked with being the hiring manager for a HIM professional to help lead and improve the workflow and quality of the HIT within the organization. Your first task is to examine the current state of the workflow related to HIT within the organization, or a specific unit or team. Your second task is to curate a brief description or list of characteristics and qualifications that a new HIM professional would have, and to comment on the relevance and importance of them with regards to the position and organization.

1.Fortis Escorts is the organisation . It is private multi-specialty ,228 bedded hospital . It is one of the renowned private hospital .for the healthcare services it provides.

2.The current state of HIT is there is a separate department for IT and there are almost 10people who look after the issues related to the softwares used by the hospital . The workflow of the department is when ever there is a issues in the software ,a call is placed from the ward by the nurse and the complaint is registered and it has to be looked after with in 1hr.

The challengea faced by the staffs working in the IT department are:-

There is no particular delegation to a person who will look after the specific area so, when the issues comes there is a fight inbetween the workers to do that work .

Secondly , the staffs posted there has to look after for both engineering section as well as for informatics . Practically both are different field and must be looked after by different teams . Recruitment of people who are qualified inthe field of computer engineering and informatics has to be appointed for the informatics department.

3. First of all proper delegation of persons for specific task has to be done so that when a problem comes in the server or software the delegated person do the task timely and there is no delay in the hospital services.

Second , training to the staff of the IT department and to the staff members of the hospital has to be provided on the different modules run in the hospital software . So, it will easy for the staff also to use software in the absence of IT staffs to carry out their duties without any delay. Training will help both the IT staffs and healthcare staffs to do their work efficiently.

4. The best leadership style to follow is democratic leadership . Listen to the issues of individual workers ,take suggestions from them for the improvement because ultimately they themselves have to do the work so, take points and suggestions that how they want to work ,what all facilities they needed to improve etc.This will be a face to face interaction without any heirarchial compultions.

5. A person with qualification of Management in IT with an experience of 2years will be best to handle the position. He must have Basic qualification , Graduation in Engineering (ang discipline ) and Post graduation in MBA in IT . These qualifications are desirable beacaue we need a person who will handle the IT department . So, the person /candidate must have knowledge in engineering plus how to manage a situation in IT field for the smooth run of the hospital software.
