The current laboratory results are Na+ 128 mEq/L, K+ 3.0 mEq/L, Cl− 90 mEq/L. The physician orders IV of 0.9% normal saline solution at 100 mL/hr, NPO, and I & O. What education would you provide to the client to prevent this issue in the future?

The following education is needed for a patient with gastroenteritis to prevent its occurence in future are

• The patient should be instructed to strictly wash hand before and after meals to prevent transmission of microorganisms
• Encourage patient to eat a healthy foods which care clean and covered
• Encourage to avoid unhealthy, uncovered ,unclean foods which could be a source of infection
• Wash hands after using toilet
• Swimming is not to be done if  the infection is because of cryptosporidium species because it can infect other swimmers too
• Avoid sharing towels and clothes
• Take medication as prescribed to treat infection
• Adequate fluid to prevent dehydration
• Report if any symptoms persists for more than 48 hours to the healthcare professionals.
