What is malaria? Describe the name and the classification of the microorganism (virus vs bacteria vs protozoa) that causes this disease, the name of the mosquito that is a vector for disease transmission and the specific pathways for transmission. Malaria is life threatening and mosquito borne disease. It affects human and other organism which can lead to death of the organism. Malaria is caused by plasmodium parasite and is transmitted by the biting of female Anopheles mosquito The microorganism that cause malaria is Plasmodium Parasite (protozoa) The complete classification of this microorganism is following Domain -Eukaryote Phylum- Apicomplexa Class- Aconoidasida Order- Haemosporid:a Family- Plasmodiidae Genus- Plasmodim Species- P. falciparum (In africa) and P. vivax (outside africa) Vector of the disease is female Anopheles mosquito I. During blood feed, the parasite (Plasmodium) are injected into the blood, lymph or subcutaneous tissue ofhuman from saliva of female Anopheles mosquito harboring Plasmodum II. The parasite reproduces in hepatocytes and RBC causing the onset of pathological conditions. The pathogen feed on hemoglobin protein. III. The pathogen produces sexual forms (pre-gametes) in RBC. IV. When a mosquito feeds on the infected person, the gametes are transferred into the mosquito where they mature. Fertilization of female gametes by male gametes produce more plasmodium. V. The mosquito can again act as vector of the disease. Justification of DDT Use: We all have our independentviews. DDT shall be used to control malaria in epidemic areas of the world, only when there is an epidemic (outbreak of malaria). However, on regular basis the best way to control is to prevent mosquito proliferation DDT is a persistent pollutant of w ater and soil. Moreover, mosquitos also develop DDT resistance. So, frequent application of DDT also increases DDT-resistant mosquito population Gradually after few years, DDT becomes useless against mosquito control. Therefore, I suggest to use DDT only when there is an epidemic (outbreak ofmalaria) to minimize DDT contamination to water and soil; and also minimized resistance development in mosquitos.
