Answer #1

(a) force constant of the springs
k = ΔF/Δx
k = (64.7 * 9.81) / 0.0517
k = 12276.7 N/m

This is the combined spring constant for both springs. Each spring individually would have a spring constant of half that value or 6138.3 N/m

(b) mass of the trailer
T = 1.14 s
f = 1/T = 0.877 Hz
f = ω/2π
ω = 2πf = 5.51 rad/s
ω² = k/m
m = k / ω² = 12276.7 / 5.51² = 404.37 kg

so trailer mass is
m = 404.37 - 64.7 = 339.67 kg

(c) Frequency of the oscillation
f = 1/T = 1/1.14 = 0.877 Hz

(d) Time it takes for the trailer to bounce up and down 10 times
t = 10 T = 11.4 s
