In reflecting on protocols for best practice, what is a protocol in your practice area that denotes or represents best practice? In regard to an identified perception for providers, "patient safety" was pinpointed. From your point of view, what is a provider's role in patient safety?

what is protocol : it refers to the set of the guidelines to manage a certain clinical and administrative problems .

- these can be developed to deal with any aspect of patient management ,from waiting list to infection control.

- these protocols are practiced in medical profession under the various names such as clinical guide lines ,practice guidelines and evidence based medicine .

some of the protocols are :

  • Best practices for injections and related procedures : it includes maitaining of aseptic techniques while doing phlebotomy ,blood drawing ,blood transfusion and sending of blood to laboratories / blood bank.
  • natural ventilation for infection control in health care setting : 100% quality assurance for infection control ,mostly during the invasive procedures should follow the stetile techniques to reduce the infection to the patients .

- should follow the hand washing techniques before touching the patient ,and after touching the patient and after touching of blood and body fluids

- maintaining sterile techniques while suctiong of secretions or others .

- care of the patients with efficiency .

  • Screening of donated blood for transfusion : before transfusion should check for the patient name ,ip no.,blood group ,expiry date .

- when ever you started the blood transfusion ,as a health care provider should check for adverse reactions .

  • Safe surgery : it is very much important that before surgery should check the pre operative check list once and should check for pre anaesthetic check ups and screening for HIV and viral screening .

- it is the responsibility of whole surgical staff such as surgeon ,anaesthetist ,nursing staff should make the patient comforatble aftersurgery and make sure for post operative complications .

  • Hand hygiene : hand hygiene is the best practice should follow all the health care staff in the hospital to prevent the infection to the patients .

- mainly to reduce the transmission of pathogenic micro organism to patient as well as health care workers .

  • proper biomedical waste management : here should follow the steps such as proper collection ,segregation,storage ,disposal .

- proper handling of waste also important for controlling of infection to patient and as well as health care workers .

  • prevention of health care associated infection
  • use of personal protective equipment to reduce the risk for patient as well as patient .

what is the protocol represents best practice in your area:

hand washing is the best paractice to reduce the transmission of infection from one person to another person and it is the prime practiced practicing in my area.

- hand hygiene help the health care staff to reduce the recurrence of infection to patient and transmission of infection from one to another

- it help the patient to stay healthy ,reduces cross contamination .

Another best practice is following in my area is infection control : it help the client for early recovery and reduces the health care burdon focussing on one patient , patient may discharged early by practicing of proper infection control measures .

  • modifying the care when necessory .
  • completing the care .
  • document the individualised patient focussed nursing care plan for each patient to achieve appropriate outcomes .
  • by improving the accuracy of patient identification .

  • By eliminating wrong site ,wrong patient ,wrong practice ,wrong time .
  • by practicing routes of administration of drugs .
  • By proving safety easure to patient to prevent from falls .
