Quality in health care is a key component to deliver safe and effective care to the patients. Quality component helps to deliver safe,effective,efficient,people focused and timely care.
The common quality improvement areas in hospitals includes:
1) Coordination of care: Hospital is functioning with collaboration of different health professionals. Inorder to maintain quality care effective communication must maintained among all health professionals. The information must be transmitted based on the hierarchy line. Autonomy and respect must maintained with in all professionals.
2) Infection control: Nosocomial or Health related infections can be prevented by following standard precautions during patient care. The quality strategies includes avoiding injuries, hand washing before and after handling the patient,periodically monitoring surgical site infections,collecting air samples to identify growth of spores or molds.Evaluating the mortality rate secondary to Hospital acquired infections and planning to reduce the count.
3) Management of medication: Medication errors plays a major issues in health care sector. The common medication errors includes administering medication to the wrong patient,wrong dosage,improper technique in delivering medication,missing dosage, overuse of analgesics and antibiotics.
4) Biomedical waste management: Proper segregation and disposal is essential to prevent harmful effects in the health care environment. In hospital 85 percent of waste is considered as non hazardous waste.
