Answer #1

According to the given question we use Eqn: QM = QV [Ca - Ci] E

where E is the solute extraction.

Here QM = 0.0138 x 10-6 mol min-1,

QV = 0.025 mL.

The concentration of glucose in the arterial blood is Ca = (90 mg / 0.1 L) / 180.2 g mol-1 = 4.99 x 10-3 mol

L-1 and its concentration in interstitial fluid is Ci = (75 mg / 0.1 L) / 180.2 g mol-1 = 4.162 x 10-3 mol

L-1. Plugging in the values, we have

E = 0.0138 x 10-6 mol min-1g-1 / (0.025 mL min-1 g-1 x [4.99 x 10-3 mol L-1 - 4.162 x 10-3 mol L-1] )

E = 0.665
