MUMPS An infectious disease caused by a specific virus usually affects the children of 5-15 years of age group, but no age group is exempted. In US, 6369 new mumps cases are reported in the year 2016. It can occur at any time in a year, peaks in late winter to early spring. Worldwide infection rates are from 100 to 1000 per 100,000 population. How it spreads? Droplet infection Direct contact with infected person Saliva, articles used by infected person and air borne droplets spread the disease. Takes 2-4 weeks to show the signs and symptoms if infected. Keep the infected person away from any direct contact with other family members as much as possible Proper disinfection of the articles used by the infected person.
