HI is strong acid and it dissociates into the ions in water and the equation and the ions are as follows

HI(aq) + H2O(l) ---------------------------> H3O+(aq) + I-(aq)

or

HI(aq) ------------------------------> H+(aq) + I-(aq)

=> carbonic acid is H2CO3

here it dissociates into the carbon dioxide and the water and the equation is as follows

H2CO3 (aq) -------------------------> H2O(l) + CO2(g)
