Answer #1

Molar mass of Cr2O3 is 151.9904 g/mol

Molar mass of Si is 28.08550 g/mol

moles in 155.0 g of Cr2O3 = 155 g / 151.9904 g/mol = 1.01980125061 mol

moles in 153.0 g of Si = 153 g / 28.08550 g/mol = 5.44765092307 mol

here also Cr2O3 is limiting reactant

so moles of Si used = (3/2) x 1.01980125061 mol = 1.52970187592 mol

mass of excess Si used = 1.52970187592 mol x 28.08550 g/mol = 42.9624420362 g ~ 42.9 g

mass of excess Si used = 42.9 g
