Audit is an independent examination of financial statements of an entity, when such an examination is done to know whether the financial statements are showing true and fair view of its state of affairs.

Audit is performed to know that the amount invested by the shareholders is properly used without any misappropriation by the management and to state that there are no material misstatements in the financial statements or misstatements if any are at an acceptably lower level and to enhances the credibility to the users of the financial statements.
