Product sustainability in Food Industry

Meaning

In simple words product sustainability means a product which is environment friendly. A Product which from its inception to till disposal does not produce any harmful things which may affect badly to the environment.

Now, product sustainability is related with reputation of image of companies. Companies want their products sustainable due to following reasons:-

  1. Environment friendly
  2. Consumer demand & Market trend
  3. To meet norms
  4. Competition & survival
  5. Rules & Regulation of waste control

Impact of product sustainability over consumer need

In present consumer are aware for his own health as well as for environment. Product good not only for “me” but also for “we” is more appealing to consumers. Hence it can easily be stated that product sustainability increases consumer demand.

Cost and economic consideration

It is also other side of coin that sustainability increase cost of the product hence sometimes due to enhanced cost sometimes it decrease consumer need also.

Industries always opt a longer view and approach, hence product sustainability is a must need of today. A company who build its image with product sustainability will definitely be rewarded by the future.

Ethical consideration in green marketing campaign to be considered

Now consumers are ready to pay more for green products. Now theme appears “Green consumers”, “Green products”, “Green markets”. Hence ethical consideration cannot be ignored in marketing campaign. Now companies pay more attention for more reusable & recycled products which are more durable. Hence companies need to opt a balanced approach for the green marketing because no one can change overnight from unsustainable products to sustainable products. Companies can plan and do in phase manner. Sooner is better concept applies here, sustainability are need of hour hence to be a part of market companies need to adopt it.

In food industries many companies like coco cola, Mcdonald etc opt to enhance use of recycled product. Packing materials are used less toxic to environment.
