In quickbooks, columns of a comparative balance sheet can be resized by Changing the column text box from the total only to month.

It can also be done by selecting the column and then increasing or decreasing the width by dragging the the column. In the process, a dialog box will pop up asking if width is to be adjusted, click yes.
