1.)for principal quantum number or shell number is = n2

where n is principal quantum number

2.) for azimuthal quantum number or subshell is given = 2l +1

where l = azimuthal quantum number

for s, l=0

for p,l=1

for d,l=2

for f,l=3.

now coming to the question

a)3p

in 3p subshell, value of l=1, therefore number of orbitals = 2(1) +1 =3

b) 4p

in 4p subshell,value of l = 1,therefore number of orbitals = 2(1)+1=3

c)for n=5

for shell number =5,number of orbitals = 52 =25

d)6d

for 6d subshell, l = 2,therefore number of orbitals = 2(2)+1 =5

e)5f

for 5f subshell, l =3 ,therefore number of orbitals =2(3) +1 =7

f) 7s

for 7s subshell,l=0 ,therefore number of subshell = 2(0)+1 = 1
