Answer #1

Ethics :

We’ve established that it is important to live our lives without unjustifiably harming other

people, species, or the natural system. It is important to grow ethically and learn how to give to

and care for the community in which we find ourselves. But we have other kinds of responsibilities

as well.

We have to pay bills, obey the law, and live in a way that serves our own personal needs. For

some, religious considerations are important too. If all goes well, our ethical choices integrate with

all of these other decision-making factors.

Unfortunately, it is easy to substitute one kind of thinking for another. For example, most

of us have made choices that serve self-interest without regard to the needs or welfare of others.

Corporate decisions sometimes favor the bottom line over potential harm to individuals. In their

histories, most religious movements have examples of people causing harm to others in the name

of that religion

  1. Avoiding conflicts of interest
  2. Balancing profit with serving patients and providing charity care.
  3. Wrestling with equal treatment vs. VIP treatment for donors and other influential people
  4. Managing pediatric and geriatric patients who may not have decision-making capacity.
  5. Addressing nurses’ moral distress about providing care with minimal benefit.
  6. Law & Ethics
  7. Ethics & Economics
  8. Ethics & Self-Interest
  9. Ethics & Religion
  10. Ethics & Opinion

Wrestling with equal treatment vs. VIP treatment for donors and other influential people.

Elite care for VIP patients such as financial donors, trustees’ family members, and other influential people in the community can take many forms. It may result in shorter waiting times or longer physician consultations, or it could mean that “the hospital administrator drops by to make sure they don’t have any problems and that their care is first-class,” said Hanson, a specialist in healthcare organizational ethics.

While ensuring the privacy of celebrities enters into the equation, “The question is whether consistently the hospital treats people who are wealthy, or who are donors, differently than the general public,” Hanson explained. Individual cases should be monitored and policies put in place to clarify expectations
