Answer (a) : Pine Valley Furniture (PVF) choose the inhouse transfer of the manual systems from an application-based information system to a database-based information system. Earlier, the information system of VF was based on the work of separate applications and then a manual process would be done to get the financial and accounting information together to pile up the final data. However, with the further growth of the company, PVF has now managed to install a database, which would synchronize all the working and separate applications and pull out the data from them and give it a final shape. VF also had to option to continue with the same set of application working separately, but then, the problem with it was that , these applications were not integrated and therefore could not give out the final data. Therefore, PVF choose to develop its won database with the help of temporary hired staff to manage its information system and its proper function.
Answer (b) : Enterprise Wide Systems refer to the software’s and applications which are large in nature and work in the form of packages. SAP is one of such large multinational software and application-based system that organizes and manages the operation of business in a large organization and also integrates its relations with the customer. Enterprise Wide systems like SAP are so well integrated that these can be customized according to the functionality and environment of any organization very easily. The options to control its software are comparatively user friendly and can be easily handled. Such Enterprise Wide systems provide fast processing of the data of the organization with out most correction, thus making them very reliable. Moreover , they usually have a very long life span , which make them worth the price they are bought at.
Answer (c) : The Systems analyst’s must posses’ certain special skills to manage the operation and database of the PVF company. They must possess the qualification to manage and control and administer the database. Moreover, they must have good skill in the control of the particular applications that the used in the process f the financial and accounting data. They must also have knowledge of financial calculations and more importantly should posses good accounting knowledge. Since PVF would only have two application systems analysts’, it is desirable that they should also posses some experience in running such production systems.
