During the latter part of the motion of a rocket its mass is halved because the fuel is used up, while its velocity increases by a factor of 10. By what factor does the kinetic energy of the rocket increase during this stage? A. 5 B. 10 C. 50 D. 100

Answer #1

We know that,

K.E={[1/2]*m*V^2}

given that,

mass is halved

so, m=m/2

and velocity increases by a factor 10

that is,V=10V

then,

KE ={[1/2]*[m/2]*[10V]^2}

KE ={[1/2]*[m/2]*[100V^2]}

KE =50{[1/2]*m*V^2}

so, option C is correct answer.

    __PRESENT 1) Short Problems: A. A competitor at a model rocket competition asks your advice - They need to get their rocket to go as high as possible, and they can either use a heavier engine which doubles the velocity it launches with and doubles the mass, or use a lighter engine which will reduce the mass and velocity by 50%. Which should they use, and why? (Assume the rocket expends all its fuel in a very small time interval,...

    During launches, rockets often discard unneeded parts. A certain rocket starts from rest on the launch pad and accelerates upward at a steady 3.15 m/s2 . When it is 260 m above the launch pad, it discards a used fuel canister by simply disconnecting it. Once it is disconnected, the only force acting on the canister is gravity (air resistance can be ignored). A) How high is the rocket when the canister hits the launch pad, assuming that the rocket...
