Digital marketing communications are essentially the equivalent of the traditional marketing communications mix for digital marketing. The off-line environment would typically use a marketing communications combination that included public relations, advertisement, sponsorship, personal sales, direct marketing and promotion of sales. Digital marketing campaigns will use some or all of these resources that are tailored to the challenge of online marketing. Of course, there will be new and innovative online tools that will also be used in the digital communications marketing mix. The online equivalents are known as channels of digital media and are used in many online and off-line campaigns.

Social media marketing is all marketing that takes place on social networks like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, MySpace, and many more. For example, Facebook has a quite complex program of social media advertising that allows the advertiser to focus on more than 1 billion people based on their location, age and other attributes. The email marketing opt-in is exactly what it says on the box. Visitors or customers are urged to sign up for an e-mail newsletter, in other words. It's so easy! The idea is to allow participants to opt-in rather than just being added without their knowledge to a database. This is also known as marketing authorization

Display advertising is often the first form of advertising that comes to mind when you think of the Internet; display advertising is just the ads you see when you visit every website. Examples might include banner advertisements running across the top of Page, or much richer and more complex advertisements such as video advertisements; many of the banner advertisements and display advertisements you see are part of big programs like Google AdWords, or the like. Search Engine Marketing, or Search Engine Optimization SEO, uses marketing tools that try to gain the best possible location in search engines such as Google and Bing for your company. Once you've drawn a new visitor, the Text or Call-To-Action (CTA) positioning will keep a visitor on your page for longer and start moving them down your advertising path.

The broad spectrum of online marketing varies depending on business needs. Effective online marketing programs take advantage of consumer data and system management of customer relationships (CRM). Digital marketing links companies to future interested buyers and brings business development to a much higher level than traditional marketing.
