Cardiac muscles form the myocardium of the heart.

Cardiac muscles are classified seperately from skeletal and smooth muscles because of the following reasons:

1. Cardiac muscles are striated as skeletal muscles but involuntary

2. They are multinucleated and nucleus is located centrally

3. They contain intercalated disks which helps in cell to cell communication and produces contraction of cardiac muscles

4. Cardiac muscles do not require any neural signals to initiate contraction.
