Answer #1

1) When Metals react in air , metallic oxide and metallic nitride are formed.

2 Mg + O2 ------> 2 MgO

3 Mg + N2 --------> Mg3 N2

When non metals react in air, only oxides are formed but not nitrides.

S + O2 -------> SO2

P4 + 5O2 -----> P4O10

2) Ferric oxide is insoluble in water.

Ferric oxide is basic oxide so it reacts with acids

Fe2O3 + 6 HCl ------->. 2 FeCl3 + 3 H2O

3) Non- metallic oxides dissolve in water to form acidic solution

SO2 + H2O ------> H2SO3 ( Sulphurous acid )

Metallic oxides dissolve in water to form basic solution

MgO + H2O -------> Mg (OH )2 ( Magnesium hydroxide )

Metals are present in S- block ( left side of the periodic table ) and d- block ( middle of the periodic table )

Non - metals are present in P- block ( right side of the periodic table )

4) In the presence of H2O and O2 burning of Ca will give Ca(OH)2

Ca + H2O + O2 ---------> Ca( OH )2 ( base )

5) Sodium superoxide - NaO2

Sodium peroxide ---Na2 O2

Sodium monoxide --Na2O
