1. Legal obligations to be followed as a healthcare leader are :-

- Civil Law

focuses on legal relationships between people and the protection of a person's rights

- Criminal Law

Focuses on wrongs against a person, property or society.

- Torts

-Wrongful acts that do not involve contracts

-Failure to meet your legal responsibilities

-Can happen when a patient is harmed or injured

- Malpractice

-"Bad Medicine" or Professional Negligence

- Failure of a professional to use the degree of skill and learning.

- Negligence

Failure to give care that is normally expected of a person in a particular position, resulting in injury to another person.

- Assault & Battery

Assault - a threat or attempt to injure.

Battery - the unlawful touching of another person without consent.

- Consent

Informed Consent - permission granted voluntarily by a person who is of sound mind that has had risks explained in terms patient and or client can understand.

- Invasion of Privacy

Unnecessarily exposing an individual or revealing personal information about an individual with that person's permission.

- False Imprisonment

Restraining or restricting an individual or restricting and individual's freedom.

- Abuse

Results in physical harm, pain, or mental anguish.

- Accountability

To be answerable to oneself and others for one's own choices, decisions and actions as measured against a standard"

- Autonomy

- Beneficence

pertains to the rights and duties of private citizens and is enforcedthrough the courts as damages or monetary compensation.

- Code of ethics

reflects the values and beliefs shared by members, informs the public of the standards of ethical conduct for the profession, and provides rules and principles for self-regulation

- Confidentiality

means preventing disclosure of private information shared between a patient and the health-care team. Once a patient shares personal information, the nurse can use that information only as authorized by the patient
