Long term effects of hyperglycemia results in cardiovascular damage, nephropathy, neuropathy, eye problems, gum infections, vision problems, and bone, joint problems. Sometimes it also develops the state of Diabetic ketoacidosis and hyperglycemic hyperosmolar state.

A lot of factors associated with the outcome of the treatment regimen of diabetes. Oral therapy is effective in a patient with HbA1C <9. Lifestyle modification along with oral therapy possesses positive outcomes on the patient. Proper diet, regular monitoring of blood glucose level, follow-up of care all contribute to the good outcomes of the treatment regimen.

A high diabetic medication regimen results in poor glycemic control due to hypoglycemic episodes. Increased weight, renal impairment also contribute to poor outcomes of the treatment regimen. Racism, poor socioeconomic status, lack of access to care all contribute to poor compliance of regimens.

Weight loss, dietary modification, diabetic agents also interfere with the good or poor compliance of treatment regimen. Sex, age, Literacy rate, duration, self-awareness, self-management, also decides the outcome of treatment.
