The unknown is 6-methyl-5-hepten-2-one

CH3 H3CM L CH3

IR:

2967 & 2915 cm-1, medium are due to sp3 alkane C-H stretch

1715 cm-1, strong is due to aliphatic ketone C=O stretch

1356 cm-1, medium is due to sp3 alkane C-H bending

852 cm-1, medium is due to sp2 alkene =C-H bending

Mass: Molecular ion peak at m/z 126, base peak (most abundant peak) at m/z 43
