3. The reaction is : Cu (s) + O2 (g) \rightarrow CuO

Now, looking on the left side of the reaction equation there is 1 Cu and 2 O whereas on the left side there is 1 Cu and 1 O. To balance the number of O we'll have to multiply CuO by 2 but then number of Cu on right will become 2 due to which we'll have to multiply Cu on the left side with 2.

2Cu (s) + O2 (g) \rightarrow 2CuO

The above reaction is balanced.

This reaction is a combination reaction.

In a combination reaction two or more substances combine to form a single new substance as in this rxn copper and oxygen combine to form copper oxide.
