Question

2. -2 point:s My Notes Ask Your Teacher The first active volcano observed outside the Earth was discovered in 1979 on Io, one of the moons of Jupiter. Suppose a volcano on another moon is observed to be ejecting material to a height of about 2.21 x 105 m. Given that the acceleration of gravity on this moon is 1.66 m/s2 find the initial velocity of the ejected material. m/s

Answer #1

we have been given height (h) as 2.21e5 m.

At this height (considering it as maximum height), final velocity (v) is zero.

Using kinematics, we have

v2 - u2 = 2ah

0 - u2 = 2* (-1.66) * 2.21e5

u = 856.57 m/s
