Answer #1

5.Given

Order:Cefaclor

Dose:0.4g

Route:oral

Frequency :Twice a day

Available:187mg/5ml

a.To calculate pounds on to weight multiply by 0.454 (1lbs=0.454kg)

66×0.454=29.964

b.As the child weighs 29.964 kg upon rounding off to the nearest hundred it will be 30kg

c.To calculate the safe dose

It is given that 20mg/kg and maximum dose is 40mg/kg in two divided doses

So when 20mg=1kg

Then 30kg=??mg

Cross multiply and divide

=30×20÷1

=30×20

=600mg

Now for 40mg/kg

Again cross multiply and divide

=30×40÷1

=30×40

=1200mg

So the safe dose range is 600mg to 1200mg in two divided doses

d.As the safe dose is from 600mg to 1200mg

The child order is 0.4g in two doses

To convert gram to mg multiply by 1000

0.4×1000=400mg

So one dose :400÷2=200mg

The individual or divided dose is 200mg
