a)

Correlation Coefficient

b)

n(Σxy) - (Σx)(Σy) [nΣχ2 - (Σκ)?][ηΣy2 - (Σy)2]

Using the above formulae and the given values we get,

r = 0.72

Correlation Hypothesis Test

Alpha = 0.05

Null and Alternate Hypothesis

H0: ρ = 0 (No Correlation)

Ha: ρ <> 0 (Correlation is present)

Test Statistic

t = r* (n-2)1/2/(1-r2)1/2 = 0.72 *(9-2)1/2 /(1-0.722)1/2 = 2.75

p-value = TDIST(2.75,9-2,2) = 0.028

Result

Since the p-value is less than 0.05, we reject the null hypothesis.

c)

effect size = r = 0.72

Since r is greater than 0.7, hence it is Large effect

d)

There is a significant positive relationship between using Facebook and depression
