Answer #1

The dissociation of KI is as follows:

KCL <==> K+ + I-

0.10 M 0.10 M 0.10M

so calculate the ionic strength as follows:

μ (ionic strength) = 1/2 * (c1Z12 + c2Z22)

  = 1/2 * (0.10 (+1)2 + 0.10 (-1)2  )

= 0.10 M

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

calculate the concentration of Hg+2 as follows :

Ksp = [Hg+2] (γHg+2) [I-]2I-]2

4.6 X 10-29 =(S) (0.867) (0.001 + 2S)2 (0.964)2

on solving best solution for S

S= 5.7 X 10-23 M (ignore other answers )
