A battery is attached across several different capacitors connected in series. Which of the following statements are true?

All the capacitors have the same charge, and the equivalent capacitance is less than the capacitance of any of the individual capacitors in the group.

All the capacitors have the same charge, and the equivalent capacitance is greater than any of the individual capacitors in the group.

The largest potential difference appears across the capacitor with the smallest capacitance.

The largest potential difference appears across the capacitor having the largest capacitance.

The potential difference across each capacitor must be the same.

The capacitor with the largest capacitance carries the largest charge.

Answer #1

Remember:
For parallel combination
Ceq = C1 + C2 + C3 +...............
for series combination
1/Ceq = 1/C1 + 1/C2 + 1/C3 + ............
for 2 capacitors in series it will be
Ceq = C1*C2/(C1+C2)
Also, in capacitors parallel combination voltage distribution in each part will be same and in series combination charge distribution in each capacitor will be same.

from this info in series circuit, equivalent capacitance will be lower than any individual capacitance.

Correct options are:

All the capacitors have the same charge, and the equivalent capacitance is less than the capacitance of any of the individual capacitors in the group.

Since V = Q/C, So (here Q is constant in series circuit)

The largest potential difference appears across the capacitor with the smallest capacitance.
