Answer #1

Infant feeding is the process of feeding the infants breast milk till they are 6 months of age and after 6 months feeding and addition of foods like rice water, gram water ,oats with milk etc to initiate weaning .

Some of the instructions to be followed while infant feeding are :-

- colostrum should given to the baby ,it should not be discarded as it contains many essential immunoglobulin ,vitamins , minerals etc and provide immunity to the child

- no other foood supplements should given to the baby . Breast milk is the complete food ,and if there 9s any difficulty with the mother to feed due to some disease etc then bottle feedings should be done . Both breast feeding and bottle feeding should not be done .

- infant should not be given any turmeric powder, gold ,honey etc on the basis cultural beliefs .

- privacy should be maintained during breast feeding

- mother should be taught about correct breast feeding method and position like baby should be positioned in such a way that it's mouth is wide open , more of the above nipple portion is inside the mouth than below portion , baby is looking onto the breast , baby should be stimulated by tapping at the side of mouth and when the baby opens the mouth nipple should be put inside .

- mother should be encouraged to breastfeed by explaining her the advantages of breastfeeding to the infant and hersel

- mother should be instructed to breast feed 8 to 10 times a day and also should breast feed at night times whenever the baby is hungry .

- mother should be taught about the indications of effective breastfeeding like after breastfeeding baby sleeps for 2 to 3 hours , urinates 4to 6 times and there is an increase in weight of 15 to 30 gram /day

- after feeding the baby ,burping should be done to prevent regurgitation .

- after and before breastfeeding hand washing and cleaning of breast should be done .
