Here, we have to use paired t test.

H0: µd = 0 versus Ha: µd > 0

This is an upper tailed test.

We take difference as before minus after.

Test statistic for paired t test is given as below:

t = (Dbar - µd)/[Sd/sqrt(n)]

From given data, we have

Dbar = 7.6250

Sd = 8.2278

n = 8

df = n – 1 = 7

α = 0.05

t = (7.6250 – 0)/[ 8.2278/sqrt(8)]

t = 2.6212

P-value = 0.0172

(by using t-table)

P-value < α = 0.05

So, we reject the null hypothesis

There is sufficient evidence to conclude that the drug is effective in lowering cholesterol.
