We have a lab report contains two experiments about standing waves.

The first one is using a machine which can provide fixed frequency 60Hz and one string which one said is tied with this machine and another side is attached with mass.

After changing the mass every time, we can get different waves with a different mode.

The second one is using a metal spring on the floor, Have two members of your group hold the two ends of spring, and stretch it our straight. Mark on the floor with masking tape the two ends of the spring. Then one person rigidly holds onto one end of the spring and another person shakes the other end to make a standing wave. You will have to adjust the frequency of your shaking very carefully, and you should at least be able to make standing waves of two modes(probably the second and third.) Once you are able to make a standing wave, develop a method to measure the speed of the wave in the spring.

My questions are:

1)Are the two wave speeds from your measurement about the same? should they be? (the second experiment)

2)Is there any difference between the standing waves on the string in experiment 1 and the standing waves on the spring in experiment 2? explain.
